The NPQML is led by Birminghams’ Education Partnership – Association of Central Teaching Schools in conjunction with Ambition Institute
Eligibility: Teachers who are starting out in middle leadership positions.
Course aims: The main focus of this programme is ensure that all participants increase their confidence, capability and impact as a middle leader. The course will empower participants to proactively develop a strong network to support them in their first steps into leadership.
Content overview: Participants will be assessed through a written assignment to ensure that they have reached the qualification requirements plus a viva interview to assess them against the more challenging Ambition bar. It will cover six areas of focus:
- Strategy and Improvement
- Teaching and curriculum excellence
- Leading with impact
- Working in partnership
- Managing resources
- Risks and increasing capability
Length: The programme will comprise of 3 full day face to face sessions led by 2 experienced Ambition accredited facilitators who are current serving middle leaders. The course will finish within a school year.

Session 2 Friday 15th January 1-4pm
Session 3 Thursday 25th February 1 -4pm
Session 4 Thursday 4th March 1- 4pm
Session 5 Thursday 22nd April 1-4pm
Session 6 Friday 7th May 1-4pm
